Hi! I’m Shara owner of Minimal Mess, minimalmess.com. I currently don’t run a Facebook page (gasp!) I know, I know, I need to get with it, but you can find me on Instagram @minimalmess.
My blog is all about minimal living, reducing waste and leaving more cash in your pockets, while also helping our lovely Mother Earth. I call myself “the imperfect minimalist” because I am by no means the poster-child of these ideals. I make mistakes, I slip up, I am not a full, 100% zero-waste human being. The point is that I am trying my best, and I could never ask for more from myself or anyone else. Never compare your progress to others, because if you are trying, you are doing more than most and I am proud of you!
I was the classic consumer, spending almost all of my paycheck before I even got it, and it just got worse as my paychecks got bigger. Eventually I felt the pain from the ever-growing hole in my life, one that I was frantically trying to fill with “things.” I felt trapped by my job, my stuff and my life. I left everything behind and never looked back. Now I want to empower and encourage whoever will read this to live a more minimal, yet fulfilling life.
We all have to work for a living, but only you get to decide how to spend what you earn. The media wants you to believe that buying their product will make you more likable and bring you more happiness, but you already know better. You don’t need to be told that it won’t.
When you are surrounded by the nagging reminder of the ads around us to CONSUME, being a conscious consumer is hard. When everything we buy comes in a plastic wrapper, reducing your waste is hard. The only thing I ask is to try. You cannot change overnight, and this can be discouraging, but small things are big things. One day at a time, one paycheck at a time, one plastic bottle at a time.
I am an imperfect minimalist.
