Untrashified is a journey towards a more sustainable consumption.
Hi, I am Sara! I am Slovenian, currently living in Berlin and working on finishing my degree in environmental planning.
I jumped on the zero waste wave in the spring, when I moved in together with my boyfriend. It was a big mess. We moved suddenly, we were getting furniture and figuring out where we will be buying our food. While signing the contract, I was panicking if Berlin is still the place where I want to be. I moved to Germany a couple of years ago to study and had great times until I didn’t. The city living was bringing me down with trash, noise and overworked people. Then one evening I saw Lauren Singer’s TED talk about her lifestyle and it felt like it’s exactly what I need. I decided to rethink my consumption and get my life untrashified (not a word, I know).
So I bought my first coconut oil, I lost my mind several times over all the plastic packaging, I started buying food in bulk, I bought a razor blade from an old dude, I quit shampoo, conventional deodorant and store bought toothpaste the day my boyfriend’s parents were visiting, and I have found so much fun and joy and sense of place, all at the same time.
I started my blog to hold myself accountable for my decision to quit waste, as well as to be a part of the lovely community of other zero-wasters. Thanks for having me!
