I’m Yen-Van Tran from Design Life Hacks.
I’m an architectural designer. I am a person with many passions in life, this includes my love for the environment, design and my love for the ocean. I grew up in the Bay Area and I’ve seen California change drastically over the years.
I started my zero waste journey when I was first living in a studio apartment in San Francisco. I knew the overall recycling process was flawed when I learned more about how the city collected and recycled trash. I decided then, that I wanted to reduce and eventually eliminate my disposables and recyclables that I produced. The more research I did on how much trash each person produced each day, made me realize my environmental footprint impact could be reduced easily.
With living a zero waste lifestyle, I have more time to focus on how and where I want to spend my energy. When it comes to how I practice my various routines or how an object might serve my life better, I hack designs of existing household products to create a more simplistic or diverse use of the object itself. I like to share my hacks, because if it worked for me, maybe it will help you too.
Zero waste has simplified my life greatly and as the years passed, I’m very thankful how much easier this lifestyle helped me in my day to day maintenance. Our environmental resources are limited and trash is everyone’s problem. What we do now, and how we decide to tackle this problem will leave the environment better or worse than what it is today . Every purchase is a vote and a voice. Lead by example and we can show the world that trash is a real problem, and there needs to be a change in unnecessary plastic packaging.
